Paracas Ballesta Islands

The Paracas Ballesta Islands are also known as the Peruvian Galapagos. Judging by this name, it is no wonder that it shelters a variety of wildlife. Sea lions, penguins and a great variety of birds, cormorants and pelicans use the islands, to feed, breed, and play in the sun.

The islands are located about 230 km south of Lima in the Pisco-Bay. After a short drive to the bay, the Paracas Ballesta Islands are easily accessed by a two hour boat trip. The boat trip itself can include a visual visit to the "Kandelaver," an image carved into the side of the rock that is said to be made by ancient Nazca people 2000 years ago.

Paracas Ballesta Islands Is A Sanctuary Of Nature
Many people may be disappointed that shore visits to the islands are not possible. The islands are meant to be inhabited only by animals and are not to be stepped on by humans. However, because the animals have not yet learned to view humans as their enemies, the boats can drive up very closely, allowing you to take some great Peru pictures.

Thus, after getting out of the Lima Airport and first wondering where to start on your Peruvian vacation, you may think of visiting the feathered friends at the Paracas Ballesta Islands.
