Oropesa is known as the land of bread. Located roughly thirty miles from Cuzco City, Oropesa is a fairly small village that has supplied bread to Cuzco and to villages in the area for centuries. Bread is their specialty and still have many stone ovens in use today as they have had in years gone by.
Named after a town in Spain, Oropesa is rich with local heritage, both ancient and Spanish architecture and is sure to impress with it's classic, Peruvian village charm! If you're looking for a great experience, a vibrant village, or just great bread prepared in the finest, Peruvian ways, then a visit to Oropesa is a good idea. Go for the charm, stay for the bread!
Oropesa - Old World Charm And Ancient Ruins
Not far from Oropesa are the Tipón ruins. These ruins feature some astounding and very ancient sites, believed to date back centuries. You can see aqueducts that were once used for irrigation, baths, terraces and a temple. Tipón is a great place to check out! The one thing to be aware of with Tipón is that it's not normally included in most tours, so if you want to visit Tipón, you need to ask about it.
In general Oropesa is a great little village to visit, but don't expect to spend the night in one of their fine hotels. Mainly this is because they have no hotels to speak of! Of course, the city in Spain Oropesa was named after has hotels. Just be careful not to accidentally book a room in one of the many Oropresa hotels in Spain during your stay in Peru!
