Manu National Park

The Manu National Park is the largest natural habitat protected by the government of Peru in the entire country. It covers all of Cuzco and Madre de Dios departments. (Departments are similar to states in the US.) The park features an amazing range of plant life and animal life.

The area rises up from sea-level, 150-4,200 meters (500-13,700ft) and is composed of several successive tiers of plant life. Toward the bottom, it's a tropical rainforest that supports over 800 species of birds and many other animals, as well. Jaguars have been spotted here along with the giant armadillo and giant otter, as well.

Manu National Park - Protected By The Government For A Reason
The reason it is protected is because it's a massive refuge of natural life that has mostly gone untouched by man. It's also an incredibly beautiful area that will make you wonder if the "civilized" world even exists! Inside this park is probably the best location for taking your Peru pictures!

The Manu National Park gets it's name from the Manu river, which helps border the park. The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized the park as a Biosphere Reserve in 1977, four years after the park was established. It's truly an incredible and important park that should definitely be on your list of Peru tourist attractions!
