Machu Picchu Peru is another one of those places that you just don't want to miss. It is believed to have once been a royal estate, although some call it an entire Incan city, and was built over the decade of 1460-1470. It was home to roughly 1200 people. And despite it's age, much of it still stands intact, today.
In an amazing feat of masonry, many thousands of rocks of different sizes and shapes were used to build roughly 200 buildings. Despite the different sizes and shapes of the rocks, no mortar was used to keep the stones together - they were cut with bronze or stone tools with such precision, no mortar was required! The architecture alone should put Machu Picchu Peru on everyone's list of Peru tourist attractions!
