Cuzco City

Cuzco City is known in modern times as the archeological capital of the Americas. This is because in ancient times it was the capital of the Inca Empire, which is believed to have been founded back around the twelfth century and spanned across present-day countries, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. Cuzco City is literally a treasure trove of archeology.

Cuzco is a tremendous example of Peru tourist attractions and should not be missed. When Pizarro first came upon the area in 1534 he built a city over the original Inca city of Cuzco and as a result Spanish and Inca architectural styles mingled to create a city of amazing beauty and antiquity. This is another reason it's such a great spot for archeologists.
