It's no surprise that the Olympic committee chose this as the site of the winter games in 2002. The rugged and varied terrain of Deer Valley, Utah makes it ideal for athletes. Since early American explorers first traversed this mountain range it has remained, thankfully, largely unspoiled by the encroachment of man.
The part of the Rockies where Deer Valley sits is a relatively small part considering how big the Rockies are. But this small area happens to contain four unique terrains challenging for the novice and the expert skier alike.
The actual history of the mountains begin somewhere in the neighborhood of 170 million years ago, but the skiing back then probably wasn't very good.
