The are many different options for where to stay in Paris. So many, in fact, that you can get stuck in the boonies if you're not careful. Staying in central Paris is ideal because then you are close to much of the many tourist attractions. If you are on a tight budget, you don't want accommodations that are far away or you'll spend more money on taxis and the metro.

While it is true that Paris is relatively small from top to bottom, you don't want to have to walk a couple of miles to get to the heart of the city. While most of Paris is beautiful, it is not all identical. An apartment in the Marais or the Bastille are good bets. You'll be close to most everything, and when you walk out the door you'll know you're in the center of the thriving city.

So where to stay in Paris is as important a question of which country to visit in Europe. Once you've made the decision to stay in Paris, do it right. While some Marais hotels may be very expensive, some Paris apartment rentals in the same area may be less expensive, and more fun.
