The best place to stay in Paris is a subjective question. "Best" is up to the traveler. Pretty much most of Paris is magnificent so choosing the best place to stay in Paris is a nearly unanswerable question.
If you like a little off-kilter flair, maybe you should stay in Belleville, which has a heavily Chinese population. If you want to gaze at the Eiffel Tower every night, stay in the south of the City of Light. If you want to see as many attractions as humanly possible, stay in the Marais or Ile St Louis so you're close to the major sights.
The Very Best Place to Stay in Paris
The very best place to stay in Paris may just be the city itself. Sounds like a cop-out, but it's true. If you're staying in a nice, comfortable apartment, there's no real way you can go wrong. Paris is so small that you can walk just about anywhere. Even if you're on the outskirts, you'll have a chance to walk further to destinations which is a great way to see the city. Or you can take the Metro.
The worst place to stay in Paris may be on the outside of town. These suburbs don't have the same authentic quality as the center of the city. There's a sense of urban sprawl in Paris that isn't as attractive the further out you go. In addition, some of the suburbs are more dangerous. Unlike the inner cities of America, the outskirts of Paris are where the crime rate is most high.
