With over 6,000 paintings as well, you're going to have your work cut out for you, especially if you take more than a few seconds at each painting.

One thing you'll need when you go to the Louvre is time. It's not something you can hope to see in a couple of hours. In fact, it may take days to go through each wing. It would be a shame to rush through the entire museum. Less may be more when it comes to the Louvre--find a style that interests you and stay there rather than trying to see too much.

If modern art is your thing, check out the Pompidou Center, a short walk from the Louvre, on the right bank. Made from a hi-tech series of tubes, the building itself is a marvel even if you never step inside.
