The Pacific Northwest

In recent years, the wines produced in the Pacific Northwest of the United States have surpassed wines traditionally considered superior. Most wine connoisseurs agree that the Pacific Northwest has eclipsed even areas of France in the quality of the wines produced. However, many believe it will be years before wines produced in this region gain the same respect and status that their French and Italian counterparts enjoy.

Though the northern region of California has received attention for the last few years, the Oregon wine country has also begun to attract the attention of critics and travelers alike. With greater regularity, wine country inns in Oregon are completely booked during the harvesting season. Large groups of friends and family congregate in the region to enjoy the autumn festivals, foods and wines.

Finding Wine From the Pacific Northwest
There is an increasing strong minority of wine drinkers who have begun to demand from their local markets and liquor stores some of the wines from some of the smaller vineyards. As a result, it is not uncommon to find a small assortment of wines from the Pacific Northwest in your local market.

If you cannot cajole your local market to order a few cases of these wines, do not despair. You do not have to travel to the Pacific Northwest to get wine from that region. Fortunately, a good number of wineries from the region operate websites from which you can purchase select years of their wines. This has greatly expanded the market for these wines and may result in more Pacific Northwest wines appearing in your local market.
