Duck, North Carolina

Duck, North Carolina, is well-known in the Outer Banks for its village-like atmosphere and stunning views of the waterfront. Considering that most outsiders consider all the Outer Banks towns as such, this notoriety is even more telling. In fact, the Travel Channel listed Duck, North Carolina, as one the Ten Best Beaches in America in 2002.

Duck, North Carolina, is a more upscale resort community than other towns and features several boutiques and art galleries. Its moniker as a top beach community however is a recent development. As recently as the 1980s, Duck was still a sleepy beach town that tourism had somehow missed.

Rapid Growth in Duck, North Carolina
Once Duck was "discovered" in the early 1980s though, development began in earnest. Twenty years later, the town is among the most thriving and affluent in the region. In addition to its beautiful landscapes and sunsets, the town is also home to world class restaurants and boutiques.

Though there are a couple of inns and bed and breakfasts to accommodate a handful of guests, the vast majority of vacationers choose to rent one of the many rental homes in the area. From a rental home, tourists can explore the town of Duck itself as well as the surrounding area. Vacationers can wake up to coffee on the porch, rent a Wave Runner during the day, and finish the night on one of the several waterfront restaurants.
