Wisconsin Vacation

Wisconsin is a beautiful state with lush vegetation, beautiful trees and plenty of lakes. You probably don't think of Wisconsin as a vacation destination, but for those who want something subtler than the frenetic pace of Las Vegas or New York, Wisconsin offers exquisite lakefront views, bed and breakfasts with delicious home-cooked meals, and a surprising selection of museums, galleries, and performing arts.

A recent survey rated Door County as the best weekend getaway destination, best place to watch a sunset, and the best place to find a unique gift in the Midwest. Door County is located in eastern Wisconsin, on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Michigan, 40 miles away from Green Bay. Because of its lakefront location, you can visit ten different lighthouses in Door County, in addition to miles of beautiful shorelines, galleries, museums, and performing arts venues.

For those who love outdoor scenery and beautiful vistas, Wisconsin has those things in spades. The French explorers who first communicated with the Winnebago Indians in the area described the beauty they saw. The first permanent American settlement in the area didn't take root until the mid 1800s, though. As a result, much of Door County is still pristine and unspoiled.

Make Your Wisconsin Vacation Special
When you come to Door County, you may be surprised at the mildness of the weather. You might expect blizzards in the winter and steaming summers, but the waters of Lake Michigan keep temperatures moderate in all seasons. You'll definitely see snow in the winter, with temperatures warming up slightly through Memorial Day. After that holiday, you'll be able to enjoy the summer weather by wearing shirts and shorts during the day.
