If you're one of the lucky few who know that Door County, Wisconsin is a great vacation spot, you know how varied the accommodations are. If you've never visited, you have yet to discover the variety that awaits you. Whether you want a luxurious room at the local yacht club or a Victorian bed and breakfast, Door County can offer many alternatives.
The Best Places to Stay
The secret lure of Wisconsin tourism lies in its inns. These inns are based on tradition, comfort, and hospitality. For example, if you like Victoriana, you'll be delighted by the White Lace Inn in Sturgeon Bay. This Inn is comprised of four Victorian homes, all decorated and accoutred with canopy beds, fireplaces, and even in-room stereos. It's one of the most aesthetically pleasing Victorian inns in the country.
If an elegant, romantic retreat is more your speed, you may prefer the Ashbrooke. Romance isn't dead (contrary to popular opinion, ladies) and this inn is going to prove it. If you want somewhere to whisk your special someone away to for the weekend, the Ashbrooke is a great place for some one-on-one time.
No matter which one you choose, Door County inns offer original antiques, stunning views of Lake Michigan, and unforgettable food. Watch the sunset to a candlelight dinner of finely cooked food, and then lie by the fire and sip your favorite red wine to soft music. Door County has a very high percentage of repeat visitors, so you can stay in a different place each time you visit. I'm a traditionalist myself, and prefer to pick one great place and stick with it, but that's hard to do here!
