Baileys Harbor Vacation

So you're thinking about a Baileys Harbor vacation in Door County, Wisconsin? There are few destinations more peaceful and serene, and more suited to offer a truly quality vacation. Baileys Harbor is an especially good spot for family vacations--let the kids swim in the lake or paddle a boat around its shores while mom and dad check out the local antique shops or enjoy a local glass of apple or cherry wine.

Bailey's Harbor was the first village to be established on the Door County peninsula. It dates back to 1848 when Captain Justice Bailey had to seek shelter to escape a violent storm. He came along this small harbor, on the tip of the peninsula. The town eventually became known for its dairy farming, which is still important to Wisconsin's economy today.

What Is There to Do in Baileys Harbor?
I was amazed by how many things there were to do in Baileys Harbor and the surrounding county. Touring the lighthouses is a must for any vacationer. If you don't feel like seeing them all, then check out the Cana Island Lighthouse, which stands at a whopping 88 feet tall. All the local lighthouses are still in operation, although they've also all been mechanized.

The best times of year to visit are summer and fall. You'll get the best weather in summer, with warm days and cool nights. If you can wait for the temperatures to drop just a bit, you'll get to see fall's colors emerge like you've never seen them before. Comparable to beautiful Vermont or New Hampshire foliage, Baileys Harbor and Door County boast colors so bright you'll think you are looking at a postcard. You might want to snap a few photos and turn them into your own postcards--you may have trouble convincing people the photo is yours!
