Cancun is a prime destination for dozens of watersport and activities, but swimming with dolphins is one of the most popular and unique experiences to enjoy in the exotic waters. Swimming with dolphins in Cancun can take place at several theme parks and adventure destinations around the region, including Isla Mujeres, the Riviera Maya and the beautiful dolphinariums.
Step 1Reserve a spot in the Dolphin Encounter program at Dolphin Discovery in Isla Mujeres. This facility offers several unique dolphin-swimming experiences in a fun and safe environment; the Dolphin Encounter is a 45-minute program that allows you to touch and race with the dolphins and watch them perform tricks (see Resources below).
Step 2Swim with the dolphins at La Isla shopping mall. This shopping mall in Cancun is home to a large dolphinarium for an exciting break from the shopping day. La Isla Dolphin Swims also offer access to an interactive aquarium complex that features unique sights and sounds from the Caribbean Sea (see Resources below).
Step 3Go swimming with the dolphins at Dreams Hotel. Dreams Hotel is located at the tip of Cancun and also takes place in a man-made dolphinarium. This is a one-hour swim that is suitable for both children and adults (see Resources below).
Step 4Enjoy a dolphin swim at Wet and Wild theme park. The Dolphinaris is part of the Wet and Wild theme park, and offers a wide range of water activities and fun for all ages. The Dolphin Swim Experience here is just one of four programs available; other options include spending time with a dolphin trainer and taking part in a sea lion splash adventure (see Resources below).
Step 5Register for the Delphinus The One program. This is an exclusive program that allows you to scuba dive with the dolphins and spend time with a dolphin trainer. The program includes private transportation, gift goggles and a diploma upon completion of the program (see Resources below).
TipsSome venues offer free admission for children under 5 years of age.
WarningsProgram rates can vary by season, so make sure to confirm reservations and review different dates if you’re on a budget. Make reservations for a dolphin swim at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance as booking options can vary by location and season.
