Canoeing is one of the most popular forms of Minnesota boating to enjoy. A canoe is the perfect vehicle to tour the state's spectacular countryside, and can give you access to areas that are only reachable by water. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is perhaps the best known canoeing site in the state, offering visitors 1,500 miles of canoe routes with which to enjoy many acres of pristine wilderness.
There are lots of boating activities in Minnesota that are geared specifically to visitors. Many people on vacation in the state choose to enjoy a sunset dinner cruise, or to take a sightseeing tour of the Twin Cities on a restored steamboat. You might also go on a guided day sail, or a sports fishing excursion.
If you're bringing your own boat to Minnesota, be sure to check with the State's Department of Natural Resources to be sure you have the proper permits and licenses. There are many lake resorts in the state that allow visitors to bring their own boats and provide moorage and supplies.
