Travel in Rome Italy to see some of the oldest and most impressive structures and landmarks in history. Few countries can boast a legacy that dates back hundreds of years, much less thousands. Rome's is one the world's most incredible stories ever told, and it is still writing history today.
Seeing History While You Travel in Rome Italy
According to legend, the brothers Romulus and Remus constructed the first settlement that would expand into Rome on the Palatine Hill. Romulus set about creating its border with a white bull and plow. Romulus is believed to have murdered Remus in response to his brother's derision, and so Romulus became the city's first king.
As Rome expanded to cover the six surrounding hills, conflict erupted with the nearby Etruscans and Latins. These two cultures capitulated to Rome and the city's influence expanded. Its power grew into first a republic and then a full blown empire. Roman dominance would last for several hundred years before the greed and decay of the emperors and the lack of unity against invading barbarian cultures from the north doomed the empire to fracture. Travel in Rome Italy and you can see the remnants of the sacking of Rome by both the Vandals and later the Huns.
If you travel in Rome Italy you can still see many of the structures that once served the people of that ancient civilization. The Colosseum is easily one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world, and the Roman Forum, the ancient heart of the Empire, still stands as a testament to Roman endurance. Throughout the entirety of Italy you can find countless sites that hearken back to days long shrouded in time.
