Any avid golfer can appreciate the grounds at Royal County Down. Dating back more than 100 years, the golf course is one the oldest in Ireland and has some of the most majestic scenery and landscapes in Ireland. Some considerable walking will be required as buggies and golf carts are prohibited. Because of the rugged terrain, it would be dangerous to allow such vehicles; instead, pull carts are utilized.
Royal County Down is located in Newcastle, just 30 miles South of Belfast and 90 miles North of Dublin. Because of its close proximity to other fantastic cities, a golf trip to royal County Down can be made into a marvelous vacation. If you are considering traveling by plane to Newcastle, there are three airports that are easily accessed. Belfast City Airport, Belfast International Airport, and Dublin Airport are all close by.

Golfing at Royal County Down is sublime. There are two courses from which to choose and both are very different. Because of the drastic difference between the two courses, it caters to players with a varying degree of ability and experience. The Championship Links course is a more technical and difficult course with a high degree of challenge. The second course, Annesley Links, is suitable for golfers of any ability.
If a round or two of golf is what you're looking for, there are several things to consider. You need to decide what day you want to play. Green fees vary depending on day of the week and time of day. On the weekends, the green fees may go up and it may be more difficult to secure a tee time. Reserving a tee time in advance is highly recommended. Also, if carrying your own clubs isn't something you're interested in, The golf course offers caddies at relatively moderate cost.
