Parkland golf and Links golf are two different types of golf courses in Ireland. The difference between the two is quite significant depending on the type of golf you are interested in. Both courses are accommodating, however, you should always assess your level of ability before you decide what type of course will better suit your game.
Parkland golf courses are typically designed inland on the island while links courses are situated more towards to coastline. Links courses are cut into the sand dunes, which means a couple things: the golfing can be a bit more challenging, but the scenery is spectacular. Parkland golf in set farther away from the coast, yet still boasts beautiful mountain terrain and majestic tree lines.
Golfing on Parkland Golf Courses
The fantastic concept behind Ireland's many golf courses is that quite a few of them actually have two courses. If you are in a group of golfers who all have varying degrees of experience, this works out great. While part of the group golf's on a parkland course, the other can be on the links course--but you're all still at the same golf club.
If you like to golf amongst ancient oak trees, all with a story to tell, and take in the unique scenery, then parkland golf is probably the best style of course for you. The courses typically offer many amenities from caddy rentals to cart rentals, so check out the specific course before you pay the green fees. On some courses, carts aren't allowed because of the terrain, so if you have back or leg problems you might want to consider a caddy, or a course that has golf carts.
