The good thing about visiting Salt Lake City is that the airport is not too big and never seems overly crowded. However, the city is full of things to do when you arrive and the hotel options are numerous. Like most big cities, Salt Lake City even has a version of the Grand Hotel, which does turn out to be quite grand.
On a recent trip to the area, I found the city full of culture with plenty of nightclubs and bars. In fact, one of my favorite bars was a martini bar lit with red lights and full of uber-hip people looking as if they wanted to "be seen." Indeed, the place reminded me of a trendy bar in Los Angeles or New York.
Salt Lake City Is for Outdoor and Indoor Lovers Alike
While there might be lots of good places to eat and drink, the outdoor experience in Salt Lake City is also worth mentioning. Not far from my hotel I was taken fly fishing. I was given a pair of waders and a fishing pole and a few minutes of instruction. While I didn't catch anything, I did have a good time. Fly fishing is a popular activity in Utah and can be quite peaceful, too.
Park City and Sundance are near Salt Lake City so the airport and the hotels are often full of people who are traveling onward to their final destination. Skiing in the nearby mountains takes on a life of its own during the wintertime when people travel from around the country to visit the area. In addition, since the winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake not too long ago, the outdoor activities include such fun and unusual things as bobsledding. For the romantic at heart, hot air ballooning is a must, but you must get up early to take advantage of the sunrise.
