Lake Buena Vista, Florida, near Orlando and Kissimmee, is the hub of the theme park universe. Here, you can find Downtown Disney, Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, and Walt Disney World Resort, an entertainment, dining and shopping complex encompassing Pleasure Island, a six-acre night theme park with shops, restaurants, and seven nightclubs. You get the idea.
Needless to say, the main reason tourists come here is for the theme parks, and as such, the hotel and motel business is absolutely thriving. The city knows that tourism and customer service is what drives the economy. A city based on tourism is going to have some very high standards for taking care of its visitors.
You can find an average chain hotel for about $50 to $75, and over $100 for something a little more upscale. It's also important to remember how little time you'll actually be spending in the hotel with all the family activities offered. And what you may save on hotels, you'll likely be spending on the theme park admissions, souvenirs and food.
To Rent or Not to Rent
You will definitely have to rent a car if you want to see something other than theme parks. There are lovely views and beaches to be seen, friendly citizens and good seafood can also be found without searching far and wide. Swimming, golf and shopping are also a nice diversion from Disney while you're in town. For the classic Florida family vacation, Lake Buena Vista is a popular choice.
