Kissimmee, Florida, twenty-five miles south of Orlando, is an adjacent city to the theme park mecca. Disney World, MGM Studios and Sea World are within short driving distances--you will need to rent a car. There are lovely views and beaches nearby, friendly citizens and great food. Swimming, golf and shopping are also a nice diversion from the theme park glut.
Needless to say, there is little other reason tourists come here than for the theme parks, and as such, the hotel and motel business is absolutely thriving. Kissimmee offers not only lots of lodging options, but it also is by obvious necessity a very kid-friendly destination.
A city based on tourism is going to have some very high standards for taking care of its visitors, and hotels have to be very competitive to stay alive. You can find an average chain hotel for about $50 to $75. That's not too bad, but you have to consider how little time you'll actually be spending there with all those theme parks to get through. And what you may save on hotels, you'll be spending on the pricey park admissions, t-shirts and food.
Kissimmee's Treasure Trove
Kissimmee also has another kind of attraction: antiques. For the collector, Lanier's Historic Downtown Marketplace in downtown Kissimmee offers 10,000 square feet of antiques, collectibles, estate jewelry, and home and garden accessories by over 70 dealers. Or you've got Osceola Flea and Farmers' Market, Kissimmee's largest flea market, with 900 specialty booths under one roof featuring antiques and collectibles, Florida souvenirs and crafts, gifts, and fresh produce. Downtown Kissimmee also has places to find collectibles, antiques, clothing, and other one-of-a-kind items. For the classic Florida vacation experience, Kissimmee's got it all.
