Cross Country Bicycle Tours

We know for a fact we're going to take another FemTour, but we're still not sure which one. However, we've been looking into a guided cross country tour. To us, this seems like it would be an incredible accomplishment--tackling the entire country by bicycle!

What to Expect
Different companies offer different things, naturally, but the company who sponsored our FemTour offers several cross country routes. Certainly, the scenery and sites vary from route to route, but the terrain is also different in each. Therefore, each guided cross country bike ride has its own set of physical challenges.

Getting Ready
You don't have to be an elite athlete to accomplish a cross-country ride. In fact, our guide informed us that she also leads a quite popular FemTour across the United States for women over fifty! This kind of ride is an unbelievable way for anyone to see the country, and experience everything from the big cities to small town America.

The key to accomplishing this kind of ride is endurance. No matter how slow and easy you take it, the country is wide, and the ride is long. You'll want to build your endurance over time by adding longer rides to your training schedule once or twice a week. If you can handle 40 to 50 mile ride two days a week (along with shorter rides and cross training on other days), you'll be in excellent shape for your guided cross-country FemTour. These cross-country bicycle tours are great vacation ideas for women.
