College Student Travel Discounts

College student travel discounts are especially welcome by this group of travelers who traditionally don't have much money to spend on extras. Fortunately, "student" is a special status that garners discounts for solo travelers and group tours and travel. A student ID card from your college or university makes you eligible for discounts in many countries.

Often, however, your local ID may not be recognized in other countries or regions. In 1968, the International Student Travel Confederation (ISTC) established the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) as a universal standard for student travel. The card is issued in over 90 countries, and provides invaluable discounts and services to student travelers.

College Student Travel Discounts Through Student Cards
The ISIC has an annual charge, but it is minimal, especially when compared to the discounts students qualify for by having the card. Airlines recognize the card and offer discounts in addition to routine student rate cuts. As part of the benefits of having the card, college student travel discounts apply to shopping and admissions to various events, and--perhaps most important--provide sickness and disability insurance.

Another great deal is the Student Advantage Card, which also has an annual charge, and offers discounts at more than 15,000 stores, restaurants, and travel services across this country. You can save up to 20 percent off hotel rooms, train and bus travel, car and truck rentals, vacation packages, and airfare. When it comes to college student travel discounts, students have an array of offers from various sources to make their university travel affordable.
