Bicycle Tours

Your Bicycle
No matter what kind of bicycle tour you choose, whether or not it's a guided FemTour, there are some things you need to know about your bike in order to make it a great experience. First, let's talk saddle. Spend enough hours riding that bike, and your saddle is going to cause you pain in areas you've never felt in quite that way before.

How do you put in long hours on your bike without hurting yourself? There are several saddle options that can make your ride easier. Some saddles are especially made for women, and have a cutout in the middle, to relieve pressure on your pubic area. Before taking your trip, ask your FemTour guide if any of these saddles are available, or if you can bring your own.

Large, cushioned or padded saddles are also an excellent option. They may be padded all over, or only in areas where you'll need it most. If you're going on a FemTour, or another kind of guided ride in which you'll be renting bikes, there's also the option of buying a padded cover for a regular saddle, which you can get at any bike or adventure cycling store.

Getting in Shape for Bicycle Tours
FemTours will allow you to proceed at your own pace on their guided tours, but some groups are much more challenging. Either way, it's good to be conditioned before setting out on a bike tour. Your best bet is to start training at least four months before you departure, getting in regular bike rides, and challenging yourself periodically.
