The waters off of Key West are some of the most comprehensive waters for fishing a good variety of species. Literally hundreds of different kinds of marine life call these waters home, allowing the average fisherman a very good selection. All the fisherman needs to do is decide what type of fishing he wants to do.
What, specifically, are the types of fishing available? For starters, there is deep-sea fishing where you can go after tuna, sailfish, marlin, and more. Many ships have sunk in the Key West area over the years and their wrecks now host a large number of fish. Going after these types of fish is called wreck fishing.

Reef fishing is similar to wreck fishing and requires that you get somewhat creative in drawing fish away from the reef. There are a large number of reef patches in the Key West area that are not often fished. This means that they are well stocked and promise to keep a fisherman busy.
If you're feeling particularly daring, there is also shark fishing. Don't worry--in real life, it's nothing like the movie Jaws. If you're more interested in eco-touring, you can fish from kayaks. In general, Key West is regarded by many as a fisherman's paradise simply because of the astounding variety.
