Florida Water Sports

Florida is known for many things, one of which is its beautiful ocean waters. Warm, clean, and tranquil, Florida waters allow for all sorts of different water sports. From surfing and jet skiing to scuba diving and snorkeling, there are literally dozens of water activities from which to choose.

As someone who was born and raised in Florida, it should come as no surprise that I love the water. Although I am all grown up and have moved away, I can't live anyplace that is too far away from an ocean. I just have too much salt water in my blood! When I come home to Florida for vacations, the first thing I do is hit the water.

Florida Water Sports and Barrier Islands
One of the things I like most about Florida is its unique barrier islands. With salt water from the Atlantic Ocean on one side and fresh water from various rivers on the other, barrier islands offer the best of both worlds. When I feel like waterskiing, I hit the river. When I want to explore underwater barrier reefs, I hit the ocean.

Barrier islands line most of Florida's coast. Daytona Beach, for instance, is one of the state's most famous barrier islands. Dozens of miles long and less than a mile wide, Daytona Beach is the ideal spring break party spot. With many miles of beautiful beaches and steamy weather, it's no wonder why Daytona Beach has been Florida's #1 spring break destination for decades!

If you like water sports, then Florida is the place to go. Whether you're snorkeling the barrier reefs off the Keys or scuba diving near the famed Ten Thousand Islands off the coast of Marco Island, Florida has it all. Just make sure to pack a swimsuit before you go!
