Tourist Attractions In Sicily

Tourist attractions in Sicily are numerous. Aside from the island's beauty and the mystique of the mafia, there are many other reasons to visit Sicily including water sports, fine cuisine, gorgeous ceramics, and friendly people. There's also the medieval cathedrals, churches, museums, and the largest active volcano in the world, Mount Etna.

Sicily tours can be divided into the north shore and south shore areas. The north shore has reefs, olive groves, secluded coves, and dozens of seaside resorts, including Cefalu, a former Arab-Norman city known for its beauty and exquisite beaches. Palermo is also on the north coast. The island's capital and largest city features the central market and 12th century Monreale Cathedral, which houses some of Italy's most impressive mosaics.

Tourist Attractions in Sicily: The Southern Coast
Tourist attractions in Sicily are abundant on the southern coast as well. Down here you'll find the town of Arigento, which features the Valley of the Temples; Acireale, which is best known for its Carnevale celebrations in late winter; and Taormina, the distinctive, beautiful town perched on cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The south shore is also where Mount Etna resides.

Other tourist attractions in Sicily (on the south shore) include the Taormina Greek theater and San Domenico Monastery near Messina. There's the Greek theater and several temples in Syracuse, along with the fifth century B.C. Temple of Concord in Agrigento, and the Casale Armerina in Piazza Armerina. All of these sites make Sicily travel vacations unlike any other in the world.
