Almost every vacation to the Czech Republic involves a trip to the Prague Castle. This ancient and expansive castle has been the home of Czech rulers dating back to the ninth century. It is the centerpiece of Prague's rich historical and cultural history.
The Czech Republic is home to at least 2000 castles and chateaus, yet none of them compares to the physical prowess of Prague Castle. It has undergone reconstructions through the centuries as different rulers orchestrated major additions. As a result, there are various styles of architecture to observe between all of its buildings.
There are several buildings and areas you won't want to miss. St. Vitus Cathedral dates back to the 14th century and combines examples of gothic, renaissance, and baroque styles of architecture. Golden Lane and the Royal Garden are nice areas to enjoy a walk and admire the scenery. In addition, there are several interesting museums with lovely paintings and sculptures to explore.
Guided Tours of Prague Castle
A lot of people like to check out Prague Castle on their own. I highly recommend taking a guided tour. Not only will you get to hear the histories behind the wondrous buildings, but also see invaluable pieces of art, weaponry, and stained glass.
