Cruises to Antarctica aren't for people who just plan to chill out on their vacation. Yes, you can book a fun cruise and just unwind, drinking and eating. If you do though, you'll miss out on a part of the planet that remains mysterious.
Why Cruises To Antarctica
It wasn't until the 1820's that this land mass was confirmed for certain. In fact, it wasn't confirmed as a continent until 1840. So what you are visiting is one of the last of the ocean's mystery lands, and it remains mysterious today.
The Bentley subglacial point is the lowest part of Antarctica, and is in fact the lowest point on Earth not covered in water. It is, however, covered by the deepest sheet of ice yet discovered. Countries from around the globe study the land and the animal life, so it's no wonder that cruises to Antarctica are actually very popular.
Interestingly enough, at one point more than seven different countries claimed ownership of this continent. None of their claims were acknowledged by other countries. Because of this controversy, the 1959 Antarctic treaty was signed, in essence giving the land to nobody but allowing nations to work on the continent.
