Costa Rica fishing can take you out to the deep blue sea on the Pacific Ocean or out on the Caribbean, whichever you choose. If you have never been deep sea fishing, you have no idea what you are missing. I will never forget the time I spent out in the deep, doing my best to catch a nice fish only to land a shark and haul it in.
Costa Rica Fishing with a Guide
If you are going Costa Rica fishing, you will want to make sure you have a good guide that takes you out fishing. When you go fishing with a local, you have a much better chance of finding where the fish are biting than you will if you simply rent a boat and go at it alone. There is one area just off the southern coast of Costa Rica that has seen over 40 world records set for the largest fish including sailfish, black marlin, blue marlin and more.
One of the things about catching fish of this size is you need to prepare to spend some serious time trying to haul in a big fish. It is not unheard of for people to spend over an hour fighting with a fish that is unwilling to surrender itself and come onboard the boat. It will be hard to keep from telling the stories so many times your friends can tell it better than you can.
There is a number of great Costa Rica fishing excursions you can put together or better yet have thrown in as a part of your overall vacation. While fishing with a guide does not guarantee you will catch a new world record sized fish but it does increase the odds that you will catch something bigger than you have ever caught before. Pack some good suntan location and a good hat to protect you from the sun and have a great time!
