Barra Honda is an area of Costa Rica that is a network of caverns that were created over sixty million years ago. These caverns were created by limestone reefs that were thrust upward by the force of tectonics. The area of Barra Honda is unlike anything else you'll see and certainly worth a visit while you are in Costa Rica.

Seeing Barra Honda
The hills of Barra Honda contain a wide cave system that is unlike any other. Nineteen of these caves have been explored; the biggest of which is the Santa Ana cave which is 240 meters deep. Other interesting caves exist within the structure including the Velvet and the Tampa caves.
