Copper Mountain Co

The history of Copper mountain Co began several hundred years ago with the native Americans. Copper mountain used to be home to the Ute and Arapho Indians long before there was even a United States. They spent their time fishing the streams and of course doing what they did best, trapping and hunting for deer and buffalo.

When Copper Mountain Co Became Famous
It didn't take long for miners to discover Summit County Colorado during the gold rush in the mid-1800's. Hundreds of small mining villages sprung up throughout Central Colorado once copper was discovered in this area. In the late 1800's, a judge by the name of John Wheeler established a settlement at the junction between the Ten Mile and Gore mountain ranges.

Wheeler junction became a popular location for miners throughout the west coast. It didn't take long for this settlement to boom as miners, prospectors, loggers and fur traders staked their claims and called Wheeler Junction home. The settlement slowly died down once the miners recognized that there was no more copper to be had.

Copper mountain Co remained an untapped resource until the early seventies. The summer of '71 is when initial construction began on the ski trails in Copper mountain. Soon after, real estate moguls from across the country were kicking themselves for passing up this superb Colorado ski mountain.
