Grand Bahama Island

The Bahamas is a region in the northern Caribbean, consisting of over 700 islands and cays. The island known as "Grand Bahama Island" is a popular Caribbean travel attraction with many hotels and resorts, and it is the fourth largest and the second most populated out of the Bahama islands.

Most of the action on this island takes place in the city of Freeport, located on the island's south coast. Freeport's beautiful harbor is constantly filled with cruise ships and other boats. An energetic night scene can be found within the city's numerous bars and clubs, including a 20,000 square foot casino, complete with nightly productions.

Grand Bahama Island's Best in Shopping
In Freeport, the International Bazaar is a heavily visited shopping location, with nearly 100 specialty shops, most of them duty-free. Port Lucaya Marketplace is another popular shopping district on the island, boasting 85 specialty stores and restaurants. This shopping district also has a Straw Market, where tourists can haggle for souvenirs and local products.

Grand Bahama Island has lovely white sand beaches. Xanadu Beach is a very active beach for those into water sports. Those who are looking for more secluded, tranquil beaches on their Caribbean Island vacation will find respite on the island's eastern and western coasts. Gold Rock Beach is the island's most popular and unique area, and just north of it lies Grand Lucayan Park, where the biggest underwater cave system in the world can be found. In addition, Grand Bahama Island's Paradise Cove offers prime snorkeling, while the eastern waters are welcoming to beautiful tours of the underbrush.
