Sedona Arizona Travel

When traveling to Sedona, one of the most popular--and necessary--activities is hiking. I say "necessary" because you really can't get a sense of the majesty of the area until you go on a hike. There are hikes for all sorts of people--from beginner to advanced, to full-on rock climbing expeditions. Whether you decide to hike Vultee Arch, Submarine Rock or Wilson Mountain, you'll experience some of the most rewarding hikes you've ever done. Ranger stations are good places to ask about trail details, to make sure you've selected a trail that's appropriate for all members of your party.

For more advanced hiking, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, all trails may not be accessible by a standard two-wheel drive car. No matter what type of car you are driving, parking passes are necessary. Don't try and beat the system because there are fines for cars without a pass. Solid hiking shoes will be necessary as well--in fact, this goes for all hiking in Sedona.

Not to scare you too much, but rattlesnakes do exist. It is the desert, after all. So you should be wary of logs and rocks and other crevices where a snake could be hiding. In addition, the hantavirus, spread through feces of rodents, can be found in the area. This is something to consider with young children who may touch anything and everything.

The Majesty of Sedona
Now with the worries out of the way, Sedona is a majestically beautiful location--full of red rock formations that seemed to have dripped from the sky, Native American ruins, and miles of trails. Your Sedona hotel will be able to point you to the best trail for your party--whether it's a family hike or something very adventurous. When choosing a hotel, look for one that has already mapped out plenty of things for you to do in Sedona. They may have pre-packaged deals that you can take advantage of that include hiking trips or other tours.
