Arizona Vacation Spots

The nicest thing about vacation in Sedona is the seclusion. The city itself contains only 11,000 people. You can find Sedona hotels either in town or far removed from the main drag. It depends how secluded you want to be, or how close you want to be to the area's shopping and restaurants. Don't worry about being too far away--in a town of 11,000, it doesn't take very long to reach a secluded area, so you'll always have access to the town.

The zoning of Sedona splits the town into two separate areas. In the downtown portion, you'll find galleries and restaurants and shops. The residential portion of the town is separate, but still along Highway 89A. There is an effort in Sedona to curb urban sprawl and make the town itself a reflection of its surroundings. When you're in town, look for businesses that have been rewarded for keeping Sedona beautiful--many local hotels and restaurants have really tried to incorporate the colors and shapes of the natural surroundings into their decor.

Really, though, it is the natural wonder of Sedona that attracts most of its visitors. Not to take anything away from the nightlife or fine dining in Sedona, but it is better known for its open spaces, breathtaking vistas, and the rock formations like those found at Oak Creek Canyon. This canyon is the second most popular place to visit in Arizona (after the Grand Canyon, of course).

The Highlight of Sedona--the Canyons
The Oak Creek Canyon isn't the only canyon in Sedona. It has many other offshoots such as Munds Canyon, Secret Canyon, the Vultee and Arch Trails, and more. Some of these locations are more easily accessible than others. Some are downright untouched by visitors--it all depends on how adventurous you want to be. Visiting a canyon is a mandatory stop in Sedona--make sure it's on your list of things to see and do.
