Green hotels are in tune with the aesthetic and awareness of the area. The people of Sedona are environmentally conscious--there is a genuine regard for the earth that is similar to the long-held Native American beliefs that the earth is more than a resource; it's a living thing to be cared for and treasured. For this reason, Sedona has one of the nation's better recycling programs, in which even the hotels participate.
As tourism is a large part of Sedona's economy, it's also a large part of the waste created. There are as many tourists visiting at any one time as there are people who live in the town itself. Local hotels have banded together to create an environmentally conscious network of resorts, hotels, and motels. If this concerns you, you should think about going with a hotel that belongs to the Green Hotel Association.
Think Green for a Nicer Stay
Green hotels are generally very well cared for--don't think that conserving resources leads at all to shabby housekeeping. In actuality, the hotels that have chosen to go green are often the ones that feel the most local pride and tend to better reflect the unique architecture and Southwestern feel of Sedona. A green hotel won't require you to sacrifice anything you'd find in any other resort.
Green hotels go so far as put their plants on a time-drip system so that too much water will never be used. Really, we all have a lot to learn from green hotels. There are certain things we take for granted--like water--and green hotels are a great example of conservation in action.
