Montana Whitewater Rafting

Montana whitewater rafting is a wet and wild experience you won't soon forget. Flathead River just outside of Glacier National Park offers what most consider the best rapids in the state. Here you'll find challenging torrents, breathtaking views of pristine wilderness, and a variety of animals on the banks roaming their natural habitat--not a bad combination.

There are several pleasant rivers on which you can enjoy Montana whitewater rafting, such as the Gallatin and Yellowstone River. For the ultimate whitewater vacation, however, you'll struggle to find a more satisfying area than Flathead River. Class II-IV rapids with names like "Bone Crusher," "Jaws," and "Screamin' Right Hand Turn" are sure to thrill first-timers and veterans alike!

Most rafting companies offer a variety of rafts to cruise the river, including oar boats, paddle boats, and inflatable kayaks generally seating one to eight people. Smaller paddle boats and kayaks are recommended only for those craving the most daring--and wet--adventures. The crashing waves and windy turns will certainly test your rafting skills.

Montana Whitewater Rafting and Other Adventures
There are other activities to combine with Montana whitewater rafting, particularly near Flathead River (which borders Glacier National Park). The 1.4 million acres of wilderness in this World Heritage Site offer rugged trails to hike, backcountry camping, sightseeing, and much, much more. If you enjoy fishing, you can even toss a line into Flathead and try catching one of those massive cutthroat trout.
