The Gulf Islands are one of the world's premier sailing and ocean kayaking destinations. These islands lack much of the sophistication and comfort of neighboring Vancouver, however embrace the sincerity of the eclectic and culturally rich native culture, and celebrate the peaceful nature of the Gulf Islands

Much of the shoreline of the islands is rocky and rugged, often with cliffs, which the sea erodes, combined with lush colors offered up by the many native flowers and spring meadows. There are two seasons in the Gulf Islands BC where all of the flowers and wildlife bloom in unison: spring and fall. It is in these two seasons that most travelers venture out on an exploration of the islands.

The first warmth of the season begins an chain of natural events on land and water. In the ocean, huge blooms of plankton provide feed for millions of marine life swimming ashore to spawn on beaches, and flocks on bird congregate onto the beach to feed off of the herring spawning on shore. While the resident Orcas feed on masses of herring and the salmon that pursue them.
