Antarctica Adventures

Antarctica adventures can take you all over Earth's most unusual continent, and provide any of a number of singular experiences. From mountains, to glaciers, to the Falkland and South Georgia Islands, Antarctica is home to a number of climates, ecosystems, and varieties of terrain. Antarctica adventures can be rigorous and physically demanding, but offer a wide variety of exciting possibilities.

Most people picture Antarctica as a frigid, desolate, impregnable region embittered in ice and devoid of life. This misconception can easily be countered by bearing witness to the floral growth that is prevalent during any of Antarctica's warmer seasons, especially the so-called Austral Summer. During this time, one can easily explore the various islands and spot the many penguins, seals, whales, and other exotic and rare creatures that populate the continent of Antarctica.

Antarctica Adventures through Mountains, Islands and Beyond
Few travelers are familiar with the extent of Antarctica's vast mountain ranges and rich topography. As the continent leads into Patagonia and the path to Chile and South America, there are a wealth of mountain paths and hiking journeys that await the brave hiker who dares to face them. Because many times of year these hikes are made more difficult by unpredictable temperature, Antarctica adventures should by led (or at least accompanied) by an experienced guide.

For travelers more interested in the unique wildlife and panoramas of Antarctica, the warm seasons are a terrific time to visit the many islands, glaciers, and coasts of Antarctica. Many historic sites are made open to visitation by the public, including the site of Ernest Shackleton's famous rescue attempt in the early 1900s. The Zodiac tours of Paradise Bay are a favorite of the sight-seeing crowd as well.
